Understanding Car Rental Insurance Excesses

September 20, 2024 / 524 / Blog
Car Rental Insurance

So, you’re planning your next epic journey, and the thought of hitting the open road fills you with excitement. But hold your horses (or rather your engines) before you rush off! Let’s talk about something super important yet often overlooked: car rental insurance excesses.

Now, one might be thinking, “Insurance? Boring!” But know that understanding this stuff could save you from a major headache down the road. So grab a cup of coffee, settle in, and let’s demystify car rental insurance excesses together.

First things first, what exactly is a car rental insurance excess? Well, it’s basically the amount of money you’ll have to cough up out of your own pocket in case of any damage or theft to the rental vehicle. Think of it as your financial responsibility beyond what the insurance covers.

Now, let’s break it down further. When you rent a car, the rental company usually offers you some form of insurance coverage. This can vary from basic to comprehensive, and each type comes with its own excess amount. The higher the excess, the more you’ll have to pay if something goes awry.

But here’s the kicker: even if you opt for the rental company’s insurance, you might still be on the hook for some portion of the damage. Yup, you heard that right! Many rental agreements have a clause called a Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) or Loss Damage Waiver (LDW), which reduces your liability but doesn’t necessarily eliminate it entirely. Sneaky, huh?

So, what can you do to protect yourself? Well, there are a few options:

What’s the Deal with Car Rental Insurance Excess?

First things first, what exactly is this “excess” we keep hearing about? In simple terms, it’s the amount you’re liable to pay in case of any damage to the rental vehicle. Think of it as your financial responsibility beyond what’s covered by the insurance. While rental companies typically offer insurance coverage, there’s usually an excess amount specified, which can vary widely.

It’s the rental company’s way of saying, “Mate, we’ve got the big stuff covered, but we need you to chip in for the small fry.”

Types of Car Rental Insurance Excess in Melbourne

When you’re standing at the rental counter, possibly jet-lagged and definitely keen to start your adventure, you’ll hear terms like Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection (TP). Here’s a quick breakdown:

  • Collision Damage Waiver (CDW): This reduces what you pay if the car gets damaged. Just note, it often doesn’t cover damage to tyres, windscreens, or any undercarriage scratches from that adventurous detour you took.
  • Theft Protection (TP): If your rental becomes a target for theft, this coverage lowers your financial hit. However, it doesn’t usually cover personal belongings left inside.
  • Super CDW and Super TP: These are the “no worries” options, lowering your excess to nearly nothing. They’re a bit pricier but can give you peace of mind while you’re driving Melbourne’s hook turns.
  • Personal Accident Insurance (PAI): Covers medical costs for injuries during your rental period. While it’s more about personal protection than the car itself, it’s something to consider.

Do You Really Need Extra Insurance?

Ah, the million-dollar question (or, should we say, the thousand-dollar question?). Whether or not to opt for additional insurance coverage depends on various factors:

  • Existing Coverage: Check if your personal auto insurance or credit card offers rental car coverage. Sometimes, these policies extend to rental vehicles, potentially saving you from duplicating coverage.
  • Risks Involved: Assess the driving conditions and your own driving skills. Are you navigating through busy city streets or planning a long road trip on winding mountain roads? Higher-risk situations might warrant extra coverage.
  • Peace of Mind vs. Cost: Sure, reducing your excess sounds appealing, but is it worth the extra bucks? Consider your budget and how much risk you’re comfortable assuming.

Tips for Managing Car Rental Insurance Excess

Now that you’re up to speed on what car rental insurance excesses are, here are a few tips to help you manage them effectively.

  1. Understand Your Agreement: Before you sign, know what you’re getting into. What does the insurance cover, and what remains your responsibility?
  2. Compare Options: Look beyond the rental desk. Third-party insurance can sometimes offer a better deal.
  3. Document Everything: Take photos or videos when picking up the car. Melbourne’s laneways are narrow, and scratches happen.
  4. Ask Away: Never hesitate to ask for clarification on the insurance terms. Better safe than sorry, especially when it involves your wallet.

Pro Tip: Here’s a local tip for Melburnians. Some credit cards offer excess coverage for car rental as part of their perks. Check your card benefits – it could save you a bundle!

Understanding car rental insurance excesses might not be as exciting as planning your Melbourne itinerary, but it’s essential for a stress-free trip. Armed with this knowledge, you’re ready to hit the road and explore everything this incredible city and its surroundings have to offer. Our Tips for Choosing a Rental Car That’s Right for You

September 16, 2024 / 465 / Blog
Rental Car That’s Right for You

So, you’ve booked your flights, your accommodation is sorted, and you’re ready to travel to your favourite destination – Melbourne! But more often than not, travelling to this coastal capital of Victoria and exploring its surroundings can be a stressful experience, especially if you’re new to this city and don’t have access to a personal vehicle.

Whether you’re planning a road trip or looking to explore the city at your own pace, renting a car is usually the most convenient and cost-effective option. But with so many rental companies and varying prices, how do you choose the right rental car in Melbourne that fits your needs? Here are our top tips to help you make an informed decision:

  • Assess Your Needs: Before diving into various options, take a moment to assess your needs. Are you travelling solo, with a partner, or with the whole family? Do you need extra space for luggage or equipment? Understanding your needs will help you narrow down the options and ensure you pick the right car size and type. Many companies offer a comprehensive range of vehicles, including compact cars, sedans, SUVs, vans, and luxury cars.
  • Consider Your Itinerary: Melbourne offers many experiences, from busy city streets to scenic coastal drives and rugged countryside. Consider your planned itinerary and the terrain you’ll encounter. A compact car might be ideal for travelling narrow streets and finding parking spots if you’re sticking to city exploration. However, if you’re wandering into the countryside or along the Great Ocean Road, you might prefer a sturdy SUV or a convertible for that wind-in-your-hair experience.
  • Budget Wisely: While it’s tempting to opt for the flashiest ride, staying within your budget is essential. Car rental prices can vary significantly based on the type of vehicle, rental duration, and additional features. Set a budget beforehand and stick to it. Keep an eye out for any special deals or discounts offered by rental companies in Melbourne, especially if you’re booking in advance.
  • Compare Rental Companies: Don’t settle for the first rental company you come across. Take the time to look around and compare prices, car options, and rental terms. Look for reputable car rental companies with positive reviews and excellent customer service. It’s also important to check for hidden fees and taxes that may not be immediately apparent.

Tip: As one of the leading car rental service providers in Melbourne and the surrounding areas, Melbourne Car Rental offers a wide selection of vehicles, convenient pickup and drop-off locations and transparent rental terms with no hidden fees.

  • Read the Rental Agreement Thoroughly: Before signing any document, make sure to read the rental agreement thoroughly. Pay attention to critical details such as mileage limits, fuel policy, and insurance coverage. Ask questions if anything is unclear or if you have any concerns. Clarifying and understanding the terms before committing to a rental car is better.
  • Check for Additional Fees and Restrictions: Before finalising your booking, be sure to read the fine print. Pay attention to any additional fees, such as insurance, fuel charges, or extra mileage costs. Some rental companies may have age restrictions. Make sure you understand the terms and conditions to avoid any confusion or surprises at the rental desk.
  • Inspect the Vehicle: When you pick up your rental car in Melbourne, take the time to inspect it carefully for any pre-existing damage or issues. Note any scratches, dents, or mechanical issues and make sure they’re documented by the rental company. Taking photos or videos of the car before driving off can serve as evidence in case of disputes over damage upon return.
  • Additional Features Consideration: Depending on your needs and preferences, you may want to opt for additional features or upgrades. GPS navigation systems can be invaluable for navigating Melbourne’s maze of streets, while car seats are essential for travelling with young children. Some rental companies also offer extras like roadside assistance, Wi-Fi hotspots, or roof racks for storing bulky items like surfboards or skis.
  • Plan for Parking: While having a rental car in Melbourne offers unparalleled freedom, parking can be a challenge in the city centre. Before setting out, research parking options near your destinations or consider using public transportation for city exploration. Many hotels and accommodations in Melbourne offer parking facilities, so be sure to inquire about parking availability and fees when booking your stay.

Hatchback vs Sedan: Decoding Your Ideal Car Rental

When it comes to renting a car, the options can be overwhelming. Among the popular choices, hatchbacks and sedans are often reliable and practical options for various travel needs. But which one is the right choice for you? In this post, we’ll compare hatchbacks and sedans to help you decide when renting your next car.

Car rental is crucial, especially when you have specific travel needs. Understanding the key differences between hatchbacks and sedans will assist you in selecting the option that most effectively meets your requirements. Whether you’re a business traveller looking for a professional appeal or a road-tripper seeking ample cargo space, this comparison will guide you towards the ideal rental choice.

Hatchback Rental

With their compact size and versatility, Hatchbacks have gained a reputation for being practical and efficient. Now, let’s delve deeper into the advantages and disadvantages of renting a hatchback, exploring why they are a popular choice for many.

Advantages:

  • Fuel Efficiency: One of the key advantages of hatchbacks is their remarkable fuel efficiency. With their lightweight design and streamlined shape, hatchbacks often offer better mileage, making them a cost-effective option for long drives and daily commutes. You can save on fuel expenses while reducing your carbon footprint.
  • Easy Mobility: Guiding through clustered city streets and finding parking spaces can be a breeze with a hatchback. Their compact size allows for easy navigation, making them ideal for urban environments where parking space is at a premium. You can confidently zip around congested areas and easily squeeze into those small parking spots.
  • Ample Cargo Space: Despite their compact exterior, hatchbacks surprise us with their generous cargo capacity. Thanks to the rear seats that can be conveniently folded down, hatchbacks provide ample space for luggage, groceries, sports equipment, or any other belongings you need to transport. Considerations for Different Travel Needs

To help you make a more specific choice, consider different travel needs and how hatchbacks and sedans cater to them.

Business Travelers

With their sleek design, luxurious interiors, and refined features, sedans effortlessly create an impression of elegance and expertise, leaving a lasting impression on clients and colleagues alike.
  • Comfort for Long Drives: Sedans provide a smooth and comfortable ride, ensuring a pleasant experience during long drives. Equipped with advanced suspension systems and plush seating arrangements, sedans offer passengers optimal comfort and support, allowing them to relax and enjoy the journey, even on extended trips. The spacious legroom and ergonomic design further enhance the overall comfort, making sedans the perfect companion for those who frequently embark on lengthy drives.

Road-trippers

  • Space for Luggage and Camping Gear: With their generous cargo space, hatchbacks are ideal for road-trippers who must bring camping gear or have extensive luggage requirements. Whether embarking on a scenic camping adventure or packing for an extended vacation, hatchbacks provide the extra room to accommodate all your essentials comfortably.
  • Fuel Efficiency for Long Distances: Hatchbacks truly shine regarding fuel efficiency for long distances. With their compact yet efficient engines, hatchbacks are the perfect choice for road trips that cover extensive stretches of road. Their aerodynamic design and lightweight build further contribute to their impressive fuel economy, allowing you to go the extra mile without worrying about frequent refuelling stops.

Tourists

  • Easy Flexibility in Urban Areas: Hatchbacks’ compact size makes them incredibly maneuverable in the hustle and bustle of busy city streets and tight parking spaces. It is especially advantageous for tourists who want to navigate urban areas and effortlessly explore all the hidden gems.
  • Ample Trunk Space for Luggage: With their generous trunk space, Sedans offer tourists ample storage for all their luggage needs while embarking on their adventures and discovering the diverse attractions of different destinations. This ensures that travellers can pack everything they need without compromising comfort or worrying about space limitations.

Car Hire for Commercial Needs

  • Towing Capacity: Regarding towing, sedans typically have limited capacity, which may not meet your requirements. However, consider opting for a hatchback if you need reliable towing capabilities.
  • Cargo Space for Equipment: One of the advantages of hatchbacks is their generous cargo space, providing ample room for carrying equipment or supplies. This makes them particularly suitable for commercial purposes, where having sufficient storage capacity is essential.

Tips and Tricks on How to Pack a Moving Truck

Relocating to a new home is an exhilarating yet nerve-wracking experience. As you embark on this journey, one crucial element that can significantly impact your moving experience is the art of efficiently loading your moving truck. From carefully selecting the appropriate truck size to meticulously safeguarding your precious possessions, mastering the art of packing becomes paramount.

By ensuring that each item is securely placed and organised within the truck, you can minimise the risk of damage and maximise the efficiency of your move. So, take the time to plan and strategise your packing approach to achieve a seamless and stress-free transition to your new abode.

Smooth Move: Efficiently Pack Your Moving Truck for Easy Transition

Efficiently packing your moving truck is not only essential but also plays a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and hassle-free move. By implementing proper organisation techniques and strategically placing your items, you can save valuable time and money and avoid unnecessary headaches in the long run.

By implementing effective strategies, you can optimise the space and safeguard your belongings, granting you peace of mind on a moving day. Take the opportunity to plan and execute your packing process meticulously, and you’ll be rewarded with a seamless, successful, and seamless relocation experience.

1. Assessing Your Inventory

  • Before you start packing your moving truck, inventory of your belongings is crucial. By meticulously assessing each item, you can effectively declutter and rid yourself of unnecessary possessions. This process helps streamline your move and ensures that you only bring along the things that truly matter to you.
  • Remember, the less you have to pack and move, the smoother and more efficient the entire process will be. So, set aside time to thoroughly evaluate your inventory and make conscious decisions about what to keep, donate, or discard. Your future self will thank you for the extra effort!

2. Choosing the Right Truck Size

  • When moving, selecting the appropriate truck size is paramount to accommodate all your belongings comfortably. Considering the size and quantity of your inventory is crucial when making this decision.
  • By estimating the required space based on your specific items, you can avoid renting a truck that is either too small or unnecessarily large. This will prevent wasted space and reduce costs. So, take the time to evaluate your inventory thoroughly and make an informed choice to make your moving experience smooth and efficient.

3. Organising and Labeling

  • When it comes to organising and labelling during a move, a few key strategies can make the unpacking and organising process at your new home much more accessible. One effective method is to create a comprehensive labelling system for your moving boxes.
  • You can opt for colour-coded labels, assigning a specific colour to each room or category, or number each box and create a catalogue of products for quick reference. Organising items based on room or category ensures a smooth and efficient unloading and unpacking experience.

4. Loading Strategy

  • When loading your moving truck, it is essential to utilise the vertical space efficiently. Place heavier and muscular items at the bottom to create a stable foundation. Then, carefully stack lighter items on top, distributing the weight evenly.
  • To ensure the safety of breakable items, wrap them in wrapping or packing paper before placing them in sturdy boxes. Following these guidelines, you can maximise space while keeping your belongings secure during the move.

5. Securing Heavy Furniture and Appliances

  • Securing heavy furniture and appliances during a move is paramount to avoid any potential damage. To ensure their safety, it is recommended to use sturdy straps, soft blankets, and protective padding to shield these items from scratches, dents, or any other harm that may occur during transit.
  • Additionally, ensure they are securely fastened to the truck’s walls, minimising any potential movement that could lead to accidents or unwanted shifts. These extra precautions will provide peace of mind and help ensure a smooth, damage-free moving experience.

6. Maximising Space and Weight Distribution

  • When loading a truck, strategically placing items is crucial to optimise space utilisation and achieve even weight distribution. To make the most of the available space, consider placing heavier and sturdier items towards the front of the truck while ensuring a balanced weight distribution from side to side.
  • Additionally, you can boost the security of your items by using moving accessories such as furniture sliders and tie-downs to keep everything securely in place throughout the journey. With these thoughtful considerations, you can ensure smooth and efficient transport while protecting your belongings.

Choose Us For Rental Cars in Melbourne

From compact cars to spacious SUVs, we offer many vehicles to meet your moving needs. Our affordable rates and flexible rental options make us the perfect choice for your next move.

Before loading up your truck, take inventory of all your belongings. This will help you determine the truck size you need and how much packing supplies you require. Take note of any fragile items that need special care during transportation.

Choosing the right truck size is crucial in efficiently packing your belongings. Consider the number and size of your boxes, furniture, appliances, and other items to determine which size truck can accommodate everything comfortably. Oversized trucks seem like a good idea but can lead to wasted space and added expenses.

End Note

Efficiently packing your moving truck requires careful planning and organisation. You can ensure a smooth move by assessing your inventory, choosing the right truck size, gathering the necessary packing supplies, and using proper loading techniques. Remember to secure heavy furniture and appliances, maximise space and weight distribution, and adequately secure loose items for a stress-free moving day.

Top 5 Christmas Camping Tips : Know Your Basics

December 13, 2017 / 328 / Blog

“What are you doing over the Holidays? Where are you celebrating Christmas?” are the most common questions being asked. With “We will be at the beach” and “We are going for a long drive” the most common answers – camping in the Australian continent can be the best experience during the Christmas time.

Christmas camping is an old Aussie tradition and the best way to celebrate the festivities in a different environment. With kids having their vacations, all the family members on annual leave and the young generation all set for the next big adventure – riding to the campsite and enjoying the basics can be the best idea for anyone. In this blog, Melbourne Car Rental shares the best tips to make your Christmas camping hassle free and extreme fun.

Do your research! Don’t start the trip without planning! Treat yourselves like the ultra-light hikers on a go. With camping being very popular in Australia, there are chances that you might have difficulty in finding the perfect spot, which can be a campsite right besides a river or the rustic environment you are looking for. Make a checklist, foremost mentioning the camping gear.

Choose the best of the camping applications and technology! Smartphones make everything easy. During the research, use applications like WikiCamps that allows the campers to leave photos and comments for the particular camping site.

Check the fuel prices and save yourself from the fuel hikes! The fuel has the tendency to surge in the outskirts. Applications like FuelMap and MotorMouth give an appropriate information about the fuel prices in the area you are traveling to.

Shop in the town or from the farmer’s markets while enroute the campsite! There is nothing cheaper and organic than the food products available in the outskirts of the cities. This way you can support the local economy and avoid carrying the heavy load of essentials throughout the journey. Trust us when we say that ‘country bakeries are always the best’.

Ride with style and stay safe! As camping during the summer is definitely risky, it is important to be 100% prepared, especially keeping a check on the wildlife and weather forecast. Additionally, book the best car rental in the city which would suit the terrain you are planning to drive on and comfortably accommodate your family members or friends. At Melbourne Car Rental, we provide the cheapest and the most reliable car rental services in Melbourne, especially Melbourne Airport Tullamarine & Melbourne CBD. Instant Quote and Booking Here!

When camping for the Christmas in Australia, don’t leave anything to chance. Also, don’t forget the barbeque skewers and the toilet paper.

Packing Tips For Winter Road Trips

July 18, 2017 / 434 / Blog, car rental

In our opinion, there is no better way to explore Melbourne’s beauty than on a road trip!

But do you know, there’s a reason why Melbourne is home to some of the world’s most spectacular road trips?

It’s not because of the spectacular beaches or dramatic coastal cliffs towering over wild seas. It’s not because the view of the mesmerising 12 Apostles on the Great Ocean Road will leave you spellbound. And it’s absolutely not because of the intimate wildlife experiences, the cool wineries in the Yarra Valley or Philip Island’s epic penguins.

It’s not for any of those reasons in particular. It’s for all of them!
In this post, we’ve listed the essential packing tips you can follow during your road trip in winter. Winter in Melbourne starts from June and stays till August. If you are looking for a reliable car for rent, you can call Melbourne Car Rental for an affordable car hire service in Melbourne. We are a leading car rental company offering the best car hire deals for all your travel needs.
Here, you’ll find all those packing tips for road trips in winter, which turn your car journey into treasured memories.

Here we go:

Book your vehicle well in advance

This is especially true during busy days like weekends and public holidays when you’ll likely wait for your turn. It’s better to book your vehicle well ahead of time. Stock your vehicle with a travel essentials kit, including a flashlight with new batteries, swiss army knife, eye mask, and sleeping pillow.

Check your vehicle for repairing issues

Make sure your car is well maintained before you go. Check vehicle maintenance issues such as wipers, battery and fluid levels. Check your battery to make sure it’s strong and charged.

Snacks, water and first aid kit

You will find insects that like to bite and sting, so include some antiseptic cream or wipes in your first aid kit, as well as bandages, and insect repellent. Always make sure to have enough supply of water and snacks with you. This will help you to stay hydrated on the road; but also helps in the case of a vehicle breakdown or emergency when you feel hungry.

Grab a cup of your favourite brew

Sometimes we hit the road at midnight, and sometimes we accidentally leave during high traffic… But the great equalizer of any road trip is an extra-large shot of hot espresso. What’s better than warming up in beautiful Melbourne with your favourite cup of Coffee or tea swirling in one hand? We recommend that you stay careful while handling hot liquids when driving. Taking a coffee break won’t set your time back by too much.

Don’t forget to pack your winter clothes

Make sure you keep yourself warm during the cold nights with winter clothes.

Your Favourite Book

Curling up with your favourite book inside your car is the best thing to do outdoors for those winter days. Imagine, your favourite brew and a great book in front of you. Is there any better winter day treat for the inquisitive type?

Campfire

When you’re having a fabulous winter in Australia, there’s nothing like a romantic campfire to help keep you warm. Get the tent, stove, matches/lighters, and lanterns beforehand.
Make the perfect campfire, and the fun begins after. Always ensure that you are a in a fire-safe area before setting up an open fire.

An hour later, arrive in the lush green Yarra Valley and watch kangaroos jumping around the vineyard as you explore and run for the hot air balloons.

Come sunset, feel the sand between your toes and the laugh in your belly as hundreds of little penguins parade up the beach on Phillip Island. And that’s just day one. Everything mentioned here is possible if you don’t just dream it, but hit the road this season.

Renting a car: Older cars or new cars?

July 28, 2015 / 371 / Blog, car rental

Renting a car is a great option when going out of town, especially on a long trip. With such a large range of cars available from rental agencies, there is an opportunity to save some money by taking a car that is not new.

With demand for cheap rental cars skyrocketing, rental agencies often keep cars longer so they can offer a cheap alternative. First-time renters often mistake them for a new car.

All cars old or new can break down so there is never a guarantee that you won’t be inconvenienced. So how do you minimize the risk of this happening to you?

Here is how to make sure your rental car is the right one for you:

  1. Where are you traveling to?

When renting a car, always consider how far you want to travel. If you just want to grab a car to get around the city because your car is in for repair, then an older model car is great for saving money. If you want to travel a long distance then always go for a new car option. Reputable rental companies advertise the age of the vehicles honestly on their websites.

  1. The reputation of the agency

A reputed agency in the city will never put an unreliable car for rent. It’ll have clear terms regarding the quality of car that it rents.  The reviews of car rental agencies in your neighborhood will give you a fair idea of which one to choose and which one to avoid.

  1. Do the cars have roadside assistance included free of charge?

Given there is no guarantee a car won’t break down, good rental companies include full-service roadside assistance as part of their car rental agreement. This should be free of charge to the renter so if you are being asked to pay for roadside assistance, go to another agency.

Take a test drive and ensure the performance is smooth and noiseless before making the call.

At Melbourne Car Rental, we cater for all budgets by providing current and late model vehicles for rent. Talk to us about where you are going and not only can we help you with tourist information, we can advise you on the best car to take for your budget.

When most of the west enjoying the pleasant, warm summers, Melbournians are busy beating the cold, wearing layers and layers of winter clothing. Although winters in Melbourne are not very cold like those in some parts of Europe, it is still a bit cold for someone from the tropics.

The mercury can easily drop to 1-2 C after sunset though it doesn’t snow. The days are short and it rains frequently.

There are many places to visit in Melbourne during winter, starting with Ski Resorts.

  1. Ski Resorts in the Australian Alps

The alpine region, northeast of Melbourne, is a major winter sport area. The skiing season starts from the first weekend in June to early October.

For more information on Victorian ski fields, click here

  1. Warrnambool

Logan’s Beach is considered as a nursery site for the Southern Right Whale or Eubalaena Australis, making it a great place for whale watching. During the breeding period, a few adult female whales visit this area to give birth to calves. The calves stay there for a period until they turn adult, usually during mid-September to late September.

Logan Beach Whale Viewing Platform is the perfect place to start your whale watching experience. Australian Fur Seals, Little Penguins and the common dolphin, also frequent Logan beach if you miss the Whales.

  1. Melbourne Winter Masterpieces

Easter Holiday Car Hire Checklist

March 30, 2015 / 366 / Blog

With the Easter break just around the corner, many are getting ready for a family holiday.  If you are heading away for a well-earned break, are you well prepared with a checklist, or are you planning to make it up as you go along? No matter which way you prefer to travel, there are some things you should not leave home without.

In case you’re still undecided, we at Melbourne Car Rental have curated a checklist that should come in handy for any prospective traveller this Easter. No doubt some will see this list as unnecessary. We have tried to make more of a general list that every traveller in Australia should benefit from. Remember this is not the final list but covers most of the essentials.

  • Driving licence: The most important piece of document every traveller should carry even if he or she is not travelling in a rental car or private car. In addition, the driving license also adds up as a Proof of Identity, which you might need time to time during the course of your travel. In case you are travelling abroad, are you aware you can get an international driving licence locally? This license is very helpful if you want to rent a car outside Australia where English is not spoken.
  • Passport: Once again, if you are travelling abroad, you will require a Passport. Although there are a few countries that permit Australians an entry without a passport, we still recommend you to carry a Passport.
  • Visas for Australians travelling overseas: A visa is a form of permission for a non-citizen to enter transit or remain in a particular country. Although Australian Citizens can travel most of the world by getting a Visa on arrival, you should always check what is required for entry into the country you are travelling. Remember, not all countries have representation in Australia and vice versa so do your research before you leave.
  • Child Seat: If travelling with little children or babies, child seats are essential and mandatory in Australia. Most rental car companies have them available for hire so be sure to book them early during peak periods so you do not miss out.
  • Charging for your phone:  We might sound dumb here, but our experience of facilitating travels at Melbourne Car Rental has taught us one thing: Travellers often forget to carry charging equipment for their phones. We do not always have spare adaptors available, but it is worth asking if we can help out if you do not have any way of charging your phone.

Conclusion:

Easter Holidays is a great time to spend with your family and friends. You can make the most of your precious time off by being prepared. Plan accordingly before you go and spend more time relaxing while you are away.
